Sedef Island and Democracy and Freedom Island

    Pearls and Freedom

While the four larger islands of the archipelago are the most popular with both tourists and visitors from İstanbul, the smaller islands also have much to offer, some with much more interesting histories. Sedef (Mother of Pearl Island) is open to the public and consists mostly of a pretty beach village surrounded by the fresh pine forest planted decades ago and private beach clubs.

The Island of Democracy and Freedom (Flat Island), is a popular place for diving schools and amateur divers. And recently, as part of a redevelopment for MICE tourism, conference facilities, wonderful sculptures, and objects are exhibited in open spaces on the island.

There is also the fascinating Democracy and Liberties Museum, which conveys the global experience of democracy and the history of human rights. It also has a library, an exhibition hall, viewing terraces, and the democracy park.

The key feature here is the tall democracy lighthouse symbolising the transition from darkness to light and the future of democracy.
