    Zeytinburnu Mosaic Museum

The Zeytinburnu Mosaic Museum is located within the former military hospital building that now serves as the Kazlıçeşme Arts Center. During restoration works initiated in 2015, impressive mosaics were uncovered through excavation surveys conducted approximately 1.5 meters beneath the building. This discovery is considered highly significant, as it reveals the presence of one of the largest mosaic areas outside Istanbul’s historic city walls.

The uncovered mosaics are dated to the 4th–5th centuries AD. Mosaics feature geometric patterns, star and polygon compositions, as well as vegetal motifs. In addition to the mosaics, the site also revealed a brick grave, a marble sarcophagus, and human skeletons associated with these structures. Furthermore, archaeological finds such as terracotta vessels and coins from different centuries indicate the long-term continuity of life in the area.

Visitors can experience both this unique archaeological site and the library, exhibition halls, and other cultural spaces located within the same complex. In this respect, the Zeytinburnu Mosaic Museum represents not only an archaeological discovery but also a center that revitalizes the cultural life of the surrounding area.
